I'm not doing my school work.
You can stick it up your arse!
I'm watching Black Books instead. Yay!
Because we haven't been to the pictures since before E was born, Mum offered to watch E for us this afternoon so we could go and see Avatar. We were both keen to see it in 3D in the cinema. Overall, I enjoyed it but I can't say it is a film I would rave about.
Kings Comics are far superior in their next day delivery of coveted goods.
Need. More. Comics.NOW! Argh!
I love this ad!
Amanda Tapping as Helen Magnus. Can't decide whether I want to do her, or be her. . .

And then there's Christopher Heyerdahl as John Druitt (Jack the Ripper),

Although I know what I want with him ;) Oh that voice mmmmmm!
Season One of Sanctuary turned out to be pretty much awesome. Can't wait till I can get my hands on Season Two! Till then, I shall resume my re-watching of SG1. :)
Oh hum, New Year is off to a dandy start (as per usual).
This year, I am sick (last year, Mark dislocated his knee). I spent Wednesday DEC30-09 puking, not being able to hold anything in at. all.
Consequently, I spent Wednesday night in hospital on IV fluids, getting checked over. After several hours and bags of nourishing saline, I was right to leave. What a friggen hassle this whole virus turned out to be. I am, however, trying to see the positives here. Observe:
- CONS - severe vomiting (additional CON, vomiting left my body so SORE); hospital waiting rooms; nurses jabbing me with needles (twice); sleep deprivation.
- PROS - IV Fluids fixed me up quicker than staying home and trying to sip water; the hospital gave me an ultrasound and I got to see our new baby bouncing around in that uterus of mine! Damn I love ultrasounds.
Happy New Year!
All in Sydney with a bunch of SG-misc people THIS MARCH. What to do? What to do? Organise Mum to watch E? Spend $300 on tix for Mark and I?
Amanda Tapping and Michael Shanks are absent... but it is Richard Dean Anderson! The man himself. Gah.
Stargate 2010
MEANWHILE, having watched more episodes of Sanctuary today, I deem it to be very AWESOME and TOTALLY kicking Stargate Universe's sorry arse all over the Sci-fi realm. Stupid Stargate Universe. More Sanctuary for me!

i can't believe we didn't start watching Sanctuary sooner.
It is BRILLIANT! Amanda Tapping - once you get past the imposed accent - as Helen Magnus, is stunning. But, really, could she be anything else?
Oh and Christopher Heyerdahl still makes me feel all kinds of excitment! His voice! Ooohh that scary wraith voice. Mmmm :)
OK, more episodes NOW!
AN INNER-CITY Auckland church, trying to promote debate over Christianity, has given up on a controversial billboard which made international headlines. Article in SMH Dec-20, 2009
Austen and zombies all rolled into one! Smashing. I am keen to read it (once I'm done loving, hating Ignatius) but haven't decided whether to re-read the actual Austen before or after. Gah. In other book news, I am now in possession of my own copy of Carol Ann Duffy's Selected Poems (and can now return the borrowed copy I have been loving, back to Maria). I am also getting Jhumpa Lahiri's Unaccustomed Earth for Christmas from my Honeyboy because he loves me.
AND, because he does love me, we bought a brand-spanking-new TV today for our Christmas present for each other. A Samsung LED LCD Series 6 32" digital television. Shiny! Plus, I'm getting Season One of Sanctuary for Christmas too. *wheeeeeee!*
On a related note, personal news from us:
I'm having a baby!! :) Our second child and we are SUPER EXCITED!!! :)
It is too gratuitous in its use of sex. The Sci-fi element has fallen by the wayside, while the characters and their relationships have taken focus. It is disappointing, esp. since the characters are largely underdeveloped, the frequent sex is boring, and overall, the essence of the Stargate franchise has been lost to a Battlestar Gallactica Wannabe. Rush and Eli are the only characters that have any merit and even then, I'm still kinda bored. Eli, actually, only warrants a mention because of my irrational attraction to slightly overweight nerdy nice boys. . .
Where are the aliens? Where is the awesome technology? This wreck of an Ancient Battleship could fall to pieces killing all on board and I wouldn't care.
And what is with the grainy, cruddy cinematograph? That light blue filter? The overuse of zoom and hand-held effects are nauseating. Homeworld Command needs to resemble the SGC, so it fits into the style properly. Keeping it in the same focus as on Destiny is foolish. There is no distinction and it makes everything feel gloomy. Stargate is supposed to be fun. Where's the humour?
Brad Wright, Robert C Cooper - what the hell are you thinking?
This is cool because:
It's RDA and Chris Judge
Chris Judge is like a punk kid
RDA is doing Samantha Carter type Science stuff which Jack O'Neill bahs at
RDA's MacGyver fame sets it up perfectly for Amanda Tapping to play this cool prank during SG1 filming:
I think that instead of doing my school work (You can shove it up your arse) that I should be watching the Black Books episode where Manny watches the thermometre because he is worried the temp is going to get up to 88°F. It's comedy gold! and would make anyone feel better about a sticky summer's day. Meanwhile, even more funny is that 88°F is only 31°C. Oh the British and their pussy weather. Makes you wonder how they ever managed to colonise this place!
I've been watching the temps all day. Pen gave Mark a digital mini-weather station for his 30th and we had that set up, plus my Vista widget and Google weather. It's 10pm and it has only just started to drop. We are now down to 28°C. Significantly less dreadful than 40°C but still not cool enough for me to switch my a/c off.

Me in the DeLorean
Back to the Future continues to be AWESOME.

Greg Rucka, Peter David Comic Panel
This was my favourite panel. Rucka made some insightful comments about characterisation and comic franchises. <3

Star Wars Cosplay Peeps

SGA Panel: Joe Flannigan, Christopher Heyerdahl, Jason Momoa, Paul McGillion
Mmm Joe and Christopher could have had me in any way they wanted. They are amazing! Joe is super down to earth and funny. I love that. Chrisopher just has this sexy wraith thing going on. mmmmm :)
No Amanda Tapping, but fun times nonetheless. Here's hoping that she will make the Sydney show in March *fingers crossed*
I have enjoyed this morning immensely. E - touch wood - has been sleeping eleven, twelve hours, uninterrupted, over-night and the blissful slumber has done the three of us the world of good. A seven o'clock wake up time is entirely suitable and happy.
The daylight woke me first, but before I could reach out and sneak in some early morning reading, Mark's warm arms curled around me, and I lost all time between then and the sound of E's early morning chatter, within those arms. E's chatter, her talk, her enthusiastic propensity towards language amazes me. I could hear her this morning trying to say 'Rebecca' it came out as boo-becca-becca and the tumbling of those sounds, word sounds, enlivened me. Yesterday, she said 'Emily' as clear and as precise as anyone could say the word. Her ever building vocabulary, new sentences, developing conversations really have "glittered like a river,/ silver, clever with fish".
On the edge of this happy morning I now enjoy the quiet. E is napping. There are birds nattering just outside the window and the room is filled with light. I have coffee, chocolate and web updates to enjoy. Jeanette Winterson has a new poem and new column up, and an interview with Carol Ann Duffy - my current poetry obsession - and I feel ravenous for powerful, interesting poetry and books. Winterson also reviews the new Rick Gekoski book, Outside a Dog which has perked my interest, I own and enjoyed his, Tolkien's Gown and thus, my list of books to read grows ...
I have a Borders Gift Voucher burning a hole in my wallet. I appreciate being given gift vouchers as presents, honestly I do, I just wish people would think to get me book vouchers for our local independent bookshop instead of the McMassive Borders which is impossible to get to in between work, and E, and life. I am time poor at the moment and I won't get to spend it anytime soon, and that is a frustration for me. There are books - huge lists of books and poems that I must have - for now though I am content to click around and follow hyperlinked trails of thought...
Till E wakes, and then (I hope) we will dig in the dirt outside, let the sunshine wash over us, stomp on watered grass, chase the puppies and eat strawberries together. She's a strawberry-girl, my babe, she gobbles them up in delight.
